Cannabis 101 / aromatic compounds
Cannabis terpenes explained
The chemistry behind aroma language, with the hype stripped away.
Aroma is context, not a guarantee
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found across the plant world. In cannabis, they contribute to a product’s scent and are often listed in product descriptions or lab information.
Myrcene, limonene, pinene, linalool and caryophyllene are names an adult may encounter. They are useful vocabulary for discussing aroma and composition, but they are not a reliable shortcut to a promised effect.
Treat terpene language as descriptive context. A product’s label, format and your own circumstances matter more than a neat story built around one aromatic compound.
- Myrcene, limonene and pinene are terpene names.
- Terpene presence does not predict a medical outcome.
- Aroma descriptions are not guarantees.
- Look for verifiable package information.
